A Heartfelt Vaccination Initiative in Ahmedabad, India
I recently had the privilege of traveling to Ahmedabad, India, to facilitate a typhoid vaccination camp in the Tekra Slum. This experience was nothing short of transformative, and I’m eager to share the positive impact we made and the joy we brought to the children and families in this community
The Tekra Slum is home to many families facing significant socio-economic challenges, and access to healthcare is limited. Typhoid fever is a serious threat in this region, and our vaccination camp was aimed at protecting the youngest members of the community—children under the age of five—from this preventable disease. Over the course of a week, we successfully vaccinated more than 250 children, taking a vital step toward improving their health and well-being.
One of the most heartwarming aspects of this initiative was the strong sense of community engagement. To encourage parents to bring their children for vaccination, we distributed gifts of toys and clothing to every child. These donations, collected throughout the year thanks to the generosity of family, friends, and supporters, served both as an incentive and a symbol of goodwill. The smiles on the children’s faces as they received their gifts were a powerful reminder of how small acts of kindness can make a lasting impact
The response from the families was overwhelmingly positive. Parents expressed their deep gratitude for the opportunity to protect their children, and the children were thrilled to receive their gifts. The atmosphere was filled with joy, laughter, and a strong sense of unity as we worked together to ensure the health of these young children.
This initiative was made possible through the collaboration of Manav Sadhna, a remarkable organisation dedicated to humanitarian work that transcends barriers of class and religion, and Apollo Hospitals, a leader in revolutionising healthcare in India. Together, we have been able to provide essential healthcare and support to communities in need. Apollo’s model of care has inspired countless others, and with over 300 hospitals across India, their commitment to quality healthcare has elevated the standard of care in the country.
With the support of both organisations, we successfully administered booster vaccinations to the 250 children this year, building on the success of the initial vaccination drive. A heartfelt thank you goes out to the entire Apollo healthcare team for their invaluable contribution to this project.
We are incredibly grateful to Manav Sadhna for their continuous dedication to these efforts, and to everyone who has supported this initiative in any way. Your contributions are vital to the success of this project and to the ongoing healthcare efforts we are pursuing in underserved communities.
This vaccination camp is just one example of the larger, ongoing effort to provide healthcare and support to communities that need it most. The generosity of those who donate toys, clothing, and their own time makes this camp—and many others like it—possible. I want to extend my deepest thanks to everyone who has helped make this work a reality.
