Janine Hammat: Embracing Diversity in the Health and Human Services Workforce

We are delighted to welcome Janine Hammat to the HG team, an experienced specialist with over 25 years of leadership and management experience in the human resources field.

With a deep understanding of the industry’s purpose and the diverse needs of our population, Janine firmly believes that a truly inclusive workforce is essential to cater to the needs of the entire community effectively. Janine possesses deep and rich insight into the unique requirements and challenges associated with recruitment from the organisation’s perspective. Her vast experience extends across government departments and private organisations, encompassing both rural and metropolitan environments, which has allowed her to garner a comprehensive understanding of diverse workforce dynamics.

 In this special feature, we asked Janine to share her expert perspective on the significance of diversity in search and recruitment within the health and human services industry. Here is what she told us:

The health and human services industry is in place to provide crucial services to our community and often in the most extreme circumstances and in their time of need.  The rich diversity of our population needs to be reflected in our workforce to ensure that we understand the needs of the whole community when planning and commissioning services, and we understand and respect the values and differences of all people so that we can provide inclusive, appropriate, welcoming and culturally safe places; and aware and committed people to provide those services. 

Working with our clients we can identify the diversity gaps that may exist in their workforce and actively seek candidates who may best assist them to fill those gaps and improve the diversity and competency of the workforce in relation to inclusion.
