Western Australia’s South Metropolitan Health Service is now seeking to appoint an inspirational, resilient, outcomes-focussed clinical leader as Area Director Nursing and Midwifery. This role will provide strategic nursing and midwifery professional leadership and advice across the region, as well as operational nursing and midwifery leadership for the Fiona Stanley Fremantle Hospitals Group.
The South Metropolitan Health Service has around 7000 staff (including 2600 FTE nurses), 1200 beds and a $1.2 billion budget to deliver hospital and health services within its catchment area which stretches more than 3300 square kilometres across the southern half of Perth. It comprises Fiona Stanley, Fremantle, Rockingham General and Murray District Hospitals as well as a number of State-based community services.
Fiona Stanley Hospital is a public hospital and teaching facility in Murdoch, Western Australia and is the major tertiary hospital in the south metropolitan area of Perth. With 783 beds it offers a range of health services including the State Rehabilitation Service, a comprehensive cancer centre, purpose-built mental health unit, maternity, paediatric and neonatal services, and the State Adult Burns Service. It also delivers specialised services such as heart and lung transplantations, robotic surgery, and hyperbaric medicine.It is immediately adjacent to the private non-profit St John of God Murdoch Hospital.
Fremantle Hospital is a 300-bed specialist hospital focused on providing high-quality aged care, mental health, secondary rehabilitation, planned surgeries and medical services.The streamlined governance structure of the Fiona Stanley Fremantle Hospitals Group ensures greater integration between Fiona Stanley Hospital and Fremantle Hospital with better access and flow for patients within and across specialty areas.
The successful candidate will be an exceptional nursing and midwifery executive leader with a track record of successful operational achievement preferably within a large and complex tertiary health care environment. You will possess excellent stakeholder, communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills and be recognised for your collaborative and empowering style. You will be an experienced leader with the capability to drive performance and build the capacity and resilience of nursing and midwifery teams to manage change while delivering outstanding patient care, services, and results.
The role will foster clinical excellence, education, professional development, and research and support local and international partnerships to establish South Metropolitan Health Service’s reputation as a major centre for Research & Development.
The successful applicant will be eligible for registration as a Registered Nurse by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia. A tertiary qualification in management or leadership is desirable.
