Senior Medical Officer (Barcaldine, Blackall, Winton) (H20_3516)
Central West Hospital and Health Service provides health and hospital services to a rural and remote population of 12,500 residents spread across 23% of the State of Queensland. This includes a wide range of medical, community health, mental health and allied health services delivered throughout the region.
The major hospital hub for the Central West HHS is the Longreach Hospital which is a 31-bed acute care facility providing a comprehensive range of services to the Longreach Community. These services include 24-hour accident and emergency, surgery, obstetrics, gynaecology, paediatrics, general and specialist outpatients, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics and ENT. The new Blackhall hospital will provide a 10-bed facility – including two emergency department bays and two observational chairs – which will provide coordinated and integrated healthcare for the community. This will include more flexible arrangements for overnight accommodation for carers/families of mental health, paediatric, palliative care and other inpatients requiring additional support.
The Senior Medical Officer will work across three main sites to deliver a contemporary primary healthcare service that supports our communities’ healthcare needs with a focus on accessibility and continuity of care;
- Barcaldine: Barcaldine Hospital and Multipurpose Health Service is an 18-bed, co-located general medical practice offering a range of emergency, inpatient, primary health and allied health services, and a dental clinic. The facility includes a six-bed flexible, residential aged care service and community care services.
- Blackall: The Blackall Hospital is an 18-bed facility providing emergency, inpatient, outpatient, pharmacy and X-ray services and is supported by visiting allied, primary health, mental health and specialist clinics. General Practitioner services are delivered through the Black Stump Medical Centre.
- Winton: Winton Hospital and Multipurpose Health Service is an 16-bed, co-located general medical practice offering a range of emergency, inpatient, and primary and allied health services. The facility includes a six-bed flexible, residential aged care service. General Practitioner services are delivered through the Winton Medical Practice, corner of Bloomfield and Oondooroo Streets, Winton.
Central West has a significant clinical and corporate governance structure and community network. The health service has a strong relationship with James Cook University and strongly supports education and research opportunities.
