Western Australia’s South Metropolitan Health Service is now seeking to appoint an inspirational, resilient, outcomes-focussed clinical leader to the newly created position of Medical Co-Director, Mental Health, for the Fiona Stanley Fremantle Hospitals Group.

The new Medical Co-Director, Mental Health, will have a demonstrated track record of strong senior clinical leadership. The successful applicant will have the ability to foster positive collaborative working relationships in a collegial environment across both sites by strengthening clinician engagement, gaining the support of all stakeholders and brokering cooperation and partnerships across the organisation through effective consultation, influence and negotiation.

The successful applicant will contribute to clinical governance as well as organisation-wide, effective and timely strategic change within agreed financial targets. The new Medical Co-Director, Mental Health will be able to achieve results through building organisational capability and responsiveness, and managing human, physical, and financial resources in an environment of constraint.

The Medical Co-Director, Mental Health, will be able to evidence business acumen with a strong track record in shaping and managing strategy including the ability to focus strategically by aligning business imperatives with strategic priorities, the ability to harness information and opportunities in order to manage change, the capacity to champion organisational vision and goals and to promote a shared commitment to the organisation’s strategic direction.

Fiona Stanley Hospital (FSH) is a state government hospital and teaching facility in Murdoch, Western Australia and is the major tertiary hospital in the south metropolitan area of Perth. It was the largest building project ever undertaken for the Government of Western Australia when it opened in 2014.It now has 783 beds and is immediately adjacent to the private non-profit St John of God Murdoch Hospital.

Together with the 300-bed Fremantle Hospital, a range of specialist hospital services are delivered across both sites. The streamlined governance structure of the Fiona Stanley Fremantle Hospitals Group (FSFHG) ensures greater integration between the Fiona Stanley Hospital and Fremantle Hospital with better access and flow for patients within and across specialty areas.

The successful applicant will be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and be eligible for Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists or an equivalent specialist qualification.
