This role provides expert strategic advice to the Chief Executive to support the achievement of high standards of medical practice and to ensure appropriate clinical governance for clinical care, teaching, training and research. This role also provides leadership for the delivery of and engagement with medical services at Fiona Stanley Fremantle Hospitals Group (FSFHG) to ensure achievement of performance and service improvement objectives.

The South Metropolitan Health Service has around 11000 staff and a $2 billion budget to deliver hospital and health services within its catchment area which stretches more than 3300 square kilometres across the southern half of Perth. The South Metropolitan Health Service comprises Fiona Stanley Hospital, Fremantle Hospital, Rockingham General Hospital, Murray District Hospital and Peel Health Campus, as well as a number of metropolitan-wide community services.

Within the South Metropolitan area, Fiona Stanley Hospital is a public hospital and teaching facility in Murdoch, Western Australia and is the major tertiary hospital in the south metropolitan area of Perth. With 783 beds it offers a range of health services including the State Rehabilitation Service, a comprehensive cancer centre, purpose-built mental health unit, maternity, paediatric and neonatal services, and the State Adult Burns Service. It also delivers specialised services such as heart and lung transplantations, robotic surgery, and hyperbaric medicine. It is immediately adjacent to the private non-profit St John of God Murdoch Hospital.

Fremantle Hospital is a 300-bed specialist hospital focused on providing high-quality aged care, mental health, secondary rehabilitation, planned surgeries and medical services. The streamlined governance structure of the Fiona Stanley Fremantle Hospitals Group ensures greater integration between Fiona Stanley Hospital and Fremantle Hospital with better access and flow for patients within and across specialty areas.

The successful candidate will be an experienced medical executive leader with a track record of successful operational achievement preferably within a large and complex tertiary health care environment. The successful candidate will possess excellent interpersonal skills and be recognised for their collaborative and empowering engagement. They will be capable of inspiring and facilitating medical teams to manage change while championing outstanding patient care.

The role will foster clinical excellence, education, medical engagement, professional development and research and will facilitate local and international partnerships.

The successful applicant will be eligible for registration by the Medical Board of Australia and will hold Fellowship of a relevant College that may include, but is not limited to, Fellowship of The Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators. A tertiary health management qualification at Masters level or equivalent is highly desirable.
