Central Queensland Hospital and Health Service (CQHHS) offers a diverse and challenging regional role, rich with opportunities and located in the beautiful heart of Queensland. The Chief Operating Officer leads and manages the day-to-day operations of CQHHS, across a broad spectrum of health service delivery settings and functions, to ensure the delivery of high quality, safe and efficient health services for the community in line with the strategic directions of QLD Health and the CQHHS Strategic Plan

CQHHS is a public health service provider that operates with a vision to provide Great Care for Central Queenslanders, the Chief Operating Officer will be responsible for leading the planning and development of initiatives and workforce capability to support the operational services of the CQHHS while providing strategic leadership and innovation in the business models that support them.

As a Senior Executive within CQHHS, the role provides significant input into the development and oversight of strategic and operational plans, policy and development, business and clinical services strategies and relationship management.

CQHHS is seeking applications from Executive Leaders to fill the role of Chief Operating Officer. The successful applicant will become a member of the CQHHS Executive Team and will provide direct advice to the Chief Executive whilst contributing to the delivery of CQHHS strategic plan.

CQHHS is an independent statutory body that services a population of about 250,000, with a budget of almost $700 million. It provides the continuum of services, from community-based health services through to range

of specialist regional hospital services and across multiple sites. CQHHS employs a highly committed team of more than 3,700 staff across the regional cities, coastal communities and rural towns in the region.

Rockhampton is the region’s major referral hospital with various other health services and hospitals across the Region. It is just on hour north of Brisbane by air, a short drive to the east coast which is home to the Great Barrier Reef and a staging point to experience the real Australian outback.

As the Chief Operating Officer, you will work closely with the Executive Team. The COO is responsible for a budget of $445m with over 3,000 FTEs across the various operations and other support services.

The ideal applicant will be someone who can demonstrate (selection criteria):

  • Proven superior strategic leadership and business capability at an executive level in a large and complex organisation. It is expected the successful applicant will have a significant record of achievement in setting business direction and managing performance through accountability, along with experience in implementing innovative and sustainable service delivery improvements in a health environment.
  • Strong proven track record in developing, implementing, and evaluating practical and innovative business models and solutions, across and within areas of responsibility that demonstrably enhance performance and are value for money, and that improve patient and consumer outcomes.
  • Demonstrated high level management skills and knowledge, including in the areas of planning, performance monitoring and improvement, resource, and budget management in a demanding high-pressure environment.
  • Demonstrated executive level experience in fostering cohesive services and multidisciplinary teams that value performance, improvement, collaboration, and innovation.
  • Demonstrated executive level communication, negotiation, persuasion and interpersonal skills, including proven experience in developing high level strategies for communicating and consulting with government organisations, internal and external stakeholders, professional bodies, non-government organisations, academic bodies and the community
