The Department of Health, Tasmania is committed to modernising health services to better serve the Tasmanian community, aligning with the values of Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence. The Department of Health oversees various hospitals across the state, including the Royal Hobart Hospital, Launceston General Hospital, Northwest Regional Hospital, and Mersey Community Hospital, as well as district hospitals and ambulance services. Additionally, it provides community health, mental health and primary healthcare services through more than 300 sites, to a diverse population of over 545,000 people living in rural, regional and urban centres. 

The Department of Health is seeking a highly experienced leader to step into the critical role of Deputy Secretary of Community, Mental Health, and Wellbeing (Deputy Secretary). This senior executive position offers the opportunity to lead and transform the delivery of community-based health services including Ambulance Tasmania, Mental Health, Public Health, Population and Preventative Health/Wellbeing and all Statewide Services, as directed by the Secretary.

Under the guidance of the Secretary, the Deputy Secretary will be responsible for service delivery, clinical governance, leadership and the management and operational performance of the Division. The role will collaborate closely with the Chief Executives of Ambulance Tasmania, Public Health Services, and other statewide leaders to ensure that strategic reforms and business improvements are delivered and key health outcomes for the community are achieved.

A key priority of the role will be to focus on the seamless integration and accessibility of healthcare delivered in the community, including across subacute, community, residential and home-based services. Experience in the development and implementation of digital transformation measures to optimise service delivery and performance will be valued.

Providing high level advice to Government, the Secretary, the Ministers and Departmental Executive, an important element of this role will be to manage significant and often conflicting pressures, and respond in a highly sensitive environment, while operating within very tight timeframes.
