THE OPPORTUNITY
We are seeking dedicated and skilled Medical Officers to join our multidisciplinary team, delivering high-quality, integrated healthcare services to the Indigenous community of Palm Island. This position involves working across the Joyce Palmer Health Service and the Palm Island Primary Health Care Centre, ensuring continuity of care for patients and fostering strong connections between the two teams.
The Palm Island Primary Health Care Centre, which opened in 2022, has transitioned services from Queensland Health to the Palm Island Community Company (PICC). As a Medical Officer, you will play a key role in providing primary, community, and secondary health services to the Palm Island community.
THE ROLE
As a Medical Officer, you will provide medical leadership and high-quality clinical services within a collaborative, multidisciplinary team. You will rotate between the Joyce Palmer Health Service and the Palm Island Primary Health Care Centre, ensuring seamless care delivery to the community. The role involves working across a wide range of services, including child health, chronic disease management, antenatal care, mental health, trauma, pre- and postnatal care, and sexual and reproductive health.
Your expertise will support the transition outlined in the Palm Island Health Action Plan (2018-2028), which aims to address the burden of chronic disease and promote healthier, longer lives for the Palm Island community. The opportunity to help shape and improve health outcomes for the largest Aboriginal community in Australia is a key aspect of this rewarding role.
