Recovery on Kangaroo Island

In the midst of the current COVID 19 pandemic it is easy to forget that as little as 3 months ago fires were raging across Australia. One of the places gravely effected by the bush fires was Kangaroo Island off the coast of South Australia. This island is Australia’s third largest is one of the most scenic natural environments on the planet. Unfortunately the fires on the island recently burnt close to 50% of the island leaving devastation for families, properties and the islands wild life. 90% of the islands timber plantations burned during the fires and it is estimated that half of the islands koala population perished. There is now a unique opportunity to be part of the recovery of Kangaroo Island as the Barossa Hills Fleurieu Local Health Network is seeking to recruit an Executive Officer / Director of Nursing for the Kangaroo Island Health Service.

The Kangaroo Island Health Service provides acute services ranging from in-hospital care for adults and children by local general practitioners to specialist surgical, obstetrics, and outpatients. Kangaroo Island is a Multi-Purpose Services site and provides emergency, inpatient care, aged care and community care.

With a resident population of around 4,500, the island also attracts around 140,000 visitors each year.
